left TH 1am wit intention of doing a nice brutal loop..maroon-snowmass TH,trail rider pass, snowmass peak, hagerman, snowmass mtn, capitol back west snowmass trail to start.. well that plan changed when snow and fog blasted the ridges we were rolling on.. very fun but few nav errors because of zero vis made for slower time.. called it a day after snowmass mtn.. still a worthy loop.. there were many gifts this day.. my fav was being so messed up on death march out missed turnoff for maroon-snowmass TH..
Nothing like hiking 2 miles in the wrong direction at 1 am...probably more fun than falling into a bog or slogging through the lake though. Rest up, sista!

Packed up to the lake, which is one of the most scenic high lakes in Co,and had the whole place to myself. Then snow slogged up snowmass the next day. Its longer than you think..lol. first to sign register in 2010. No one had signed it yet that year. What a summit. Wow.

'S' Ridge
Climbed 'S' Ridge on a day trip from Crystal TH. Descended the same way. Nice route with plenty of solid rock if you stay on the ridge crest. Beautiful weather, great views!
Topped out late in the day to finally finish the ridge traverse from Capitol.
Looks like me, Mike, and Steve made the first ascent of the ridge proper. Hard to know in CO with unrecorded data. Encountered dangerous-very dangerous climbing most of the way. Especially the Gendarmes. Not much pro and if you do get a piece it's not something you want to fall on. On top of that, it's choss with massive exposure and I mean the worse choss you can imagine. Glad we all came out unhurt. One of the most rewarding experiences though at the same time!!!! This thing is absolutely no joke. A test piece for sure!

Memorial weekend
Was stupid and went up the east face with my dog. Snow was MUCH steeper than it looked and it got soft quick. Very fortunate to get a belay from above. Lesson learned!

Standard Approach
Backpacked into Snowmass Lake via Snowmass Creek approach on Monday in torrential rain most of the day - great way to spend my first night ever in the backcountry! Hit the summit on late Tuesday morning. Had the route and summit to ourselves, except for one group of three we saw on our descent. Hiked out the same day via Buckskin Pass (as we had cars at both trailheads).

Snowmass Creek approach
The Gladbach Memorial Day 2010 trip. My first 14er snow climb and first 14er of 2010. I was slower than normal this day. Everyone else who would summit was coming down from the summit when I reached the ridge. I was ready to turn around, but Gladbach convinced me to summit by going back with me. Glad he did!
Can I stress beautiful enough? Great hike! Got off route did some easy 5th class climbing to gain summit added some excitement. Good day in the mountains.

90 ft from top!
Came up from the Snowmass creek trailhead. Hiked to lake on 29th, climbed on 30th. The top 90 feet was a pretty heavy mix of snow/ice and rock. Have to go back and get the summit. Lots of fun with plenty of snow in the snowmass still. Weather was perfect.
Absolutely beautiful area, worse part of the climb is just above Snowmass Lake negotiating all the scree

Standard Route from Snowmass Lake
Only ten 14ers left! What a beautiful hike and scenic area around the lake. We got pummeled by a storm the night before the climb, very scary lightning.
