Route: South east ridge  Sucess!

Wonderful area. Packed into Alice lake and camped. Did the climb from there in one day. Completed the Toxaway lake loop the next. Wonderful area and a great view down the Boise, Payette and Salmon Rivers.

Saw two goats right under the summit.

Pettit Lake  Sucess!

Nice long dayhike from the campground at Petit Lake. Gorgeous views from the summit. I can hardly wait to go back and climb Mt Cramer.

Dayhike from Pettit Lake  Sucess!

We camped at Pettit Lake and hit the trail early in the a.m. to avoid as much heat as we could. Dennis and I went up via Alice Lake to the pass between Toxaway and Twin Lakes and then went up from there. The summit view is absolutely spectacular, one of the best I've enjoyed in any mountain range and we completed a long day (18 miles) by having some corn on the cob and a great dinner at the campsite, provided by Dennis's wife who had to deal with the myriads of flies and mosquitos during the day while we were off playing on the mountain. Dennis and I will return to do Cramer at a later time as the Sawtooth range is incredible.

Toxaway Pass  Sucess!

I climbed Snowyside Peak during a three day backpacking trip. The weather was perfect but there were forest fires in the Salmon River Mountains and the peaks above Sun Valley. Hiked to Twin Lakes and then went up to Toxaway Pass. I climbed up the mountain from there. The view of all of the mountains and lakes is incredible. It is a very beautiful area.

From Toxaway Lake  Sucess!

Part of great backpacking trip from Toxaway Lake to the pass. Great scramble but too many bugs on top to stay long. Awesome views of the lakes and mountains.

A True Sawtooth Gem, Climbed in late-July of 1999  Sucess!

Climbed with 3 other LHBC counselors. Hiked in from Alpine Way TH at the end of the Alturas Lake Rd. Lots of lakes and wildflowers on the approach. The summit view is phenomenal: endless lakes and mountains.

Route Climbed: From the pass Date Climbed: July 13, 2003  Sucess!

Did this as part of a giant 20 mile loop run through the Sawtooths. Went from the Alice Lakes side up to the pass where I scrambled up the peak. Then ran down by Toxaway and Yellow Belly completing the loop back near thge trailhead at Pettitte Lake

Route Climbed: loop trail from Pettit Lake Date Climbed: August 1978  Sucess!

Al Fluegge and Will Rafferty (now dead) did this loop with me back when we were Navy reactor operators at INEL. We parked at the Pettit Lake trailhead, but started towards Yellow Belly Lake. Overnighted at Toxaway Lake -- truly one of the most beautiful places I've ever been -- and came out past Alice Lake.

The peak is a hands-and-feet scramble from the pass. View is very nice, but so is the view from many other Idaho high spots.

Route Climbed: East, then south ridge from Toxaway Pass Date Climbed: August 7th, 2004  Sucess!

This peak is one of my faves. 30+ lakes visible from the top, beautiful approach hike, and fun scrambling on the ridge to get there!

Duane and I climbed Mt. Cramer and Snowyside Peak on a loop backpack in the Sawtooth Wilderness. We spent two nights at Toxaway Lake, climbing Cramer from there. The following day we hiked south to the saddle between Toxaway Lake and Twin Lakes. Leaving our packs at the saddle, we climbed Snowyside from there, then hiked to Alice Lake and camped. The following day we hiked out to the Tin Cup TH at Pettit Lake. 11 years later when I became interested in county highpoints, I discovered that the two climbs gave me the highpoints of Boise and Elmore Counties.
