Fun hike up the canyon to the summit. Neat geology all around. http://www.coloradoascents.blogspot.com/2014/03/south-boulder-peak-and-bear-peak.html
Have climbed up to South Boulder and Bear numerous times from both Fern and Shadow Canyon. Great training hike.
Nice winter loop, started and ended at South Mesa Trailhead.
With fresh snow
A blocky bouldery summit just off the path. A blasting wind the day we finally traversed over.
Great views in all directions, clear day. Hiked Bear Peak afterwards.
I have been up this and Bear peak several times, they are always good early season leg work outs.
Fun little hike!
I'm guessing I've climbed this at least a dozen times - usually with Bear Peak up Shadow Canyon. Nov 20, 2010 was the most recent time.
Good workout! Neat canyon. Busy trailhead, good luck getting a parking spot on the weekends.
Climbed along with Bear Peak sometime back in February. Was a good day for such a small (altitude) peak. One of the best hikes in Boulder by far!
Climbed all three of these peaks routinely while training for the San Juan Solstice 50 miler (aka Lake City 50).
Shadow Canyon was nice and steep.
While winter is back to high country, S. Boulder Pk,makes perfect substitude.
Hit this after Bear from S. Mesa & Fern Cyn. Great day with sun and light breeze but IP's and Longs were all clouded over. Descended Shadow. Looking forward to having a go at the Green & Bear It trifecta, maybe in a month or so.
sweet hike via. the S Mesa trailhead and Shadow Canyon, makes for a great combo w/Bear
Sometimes in combination w/Bear and Green.
