My first trip to Indian Peaks, did South, traverse and North Peak with Duchess (she was great!), it was foggy and the rock was wet, but the traverse seemed straight forwards and not too difficult. Had to lift my dog at several sections (wold not recommend it for most dogs).
Used this hike as a "down day" between our class 3 14er hikes
Summited S. Arapaho via Skywalker Coulior
on May 26th: rode bicycle 22 miles from my home in Boulder to Eldora.
on May 27th: rode 6 more miles to "Fourth of July" TH, and summitted both South, then North Arapaho. Then rode downhill back to Boulder.
Cycle: 6 hours up
Walk: 4 hours up (for both summits)
Walk: 2.5 hours down bach to TH
Cycle: 2 hours down to Boulder
Heard about the route long enough, finally headed up. Nice little scramble. One heckuva summit cairn on North Arapaho!
The traverse is a blast. The "crux" isn't as bad as its made out to be.
I'll be returning to this great area!
Fun hike, cool traverse.
Started up at 6:00AM and reached empty S.Arapaho summit at 8:27. Paused only briefly then over the traverse to empty N.Arapaho at 9:30. Stayed about 25 min. with many others heading over, back across to S.Arapaho at 10:44. Stayed a bit longer then over to "Old Baldy", back to the TH at 1:19PM.......Sweet!
Mellow climb, great views from longs to pikes
Climbed Skywalker and had perfect conditions. A+!
I was wiped because I deviated from the standard trail. I headed up a cascade after .97 miles which put me into the cirque just south of Baldy. After some steep scree and doubt, I rejoined the trail near the pass between Baldy and the Arapahos, scooted up to S. Arapaho and called it a day.
weather rolled in so we had to turn back on the ridge from N. Araphoe Peak. Spectacular peak nonetheless!
Had a great day on the traverse in dry conditions. Very pleasant scrambling!
Enchanted by this peak from my perch in Boulder, I had to climb it. Windy conditions on the summit and poor equipment (we all have to start somewhere right?) forced me to descend before getting North Arapaho.
I had been up the 4th of July trail a number of times before it hit me that I should climb S Arapaho. I attempted the traverse on 14Jun, but didn't get too far due to snow (I didn't have snow gear). I remember meeting myrone on that day. Got over to N Arapaho a month later. I remember meeting GeorgeJames on that day; he got a picture of me having a lot of fun on the traverse. The traverse was one of my first class 3s.
Did the traverse + Old Baldy. My first Class 3 peak--very fun and not as difficult as I thought it would be. Hardest part of the day was route-finding the final stretch of the out leg: took an hour+ to get out and only 30 mins to get back.
just did the south peak. walkup. 4hrs 20min round trip.
Cool route to the summit. It's nice that the route tops out so close to the summit.
Hiked up from 4th of July. Mostly easy scrambling on the ridge, but what an amazing peak!
