Approach

(1) From the Mono Pass Trail trailhead hike cross country east to the saddle between Mt Dana and Mt Gibbs. It is a total about three miles, the first mile through the forest.

(2) From the top of Mt Gibbs descend via the Northeast ridge to the saddle between Gibbs and Dana. This enables a circuit with Gibbs and Dana starting from the Mono Pass Trail trailhead: (a) Hike Mt Gibbs via west slope (b) descend Mt Gibbs via northeast ridge (c) ascend Mt Dana via the south slope (d) descend Dana via the standard route (e) hike from Tioga Pass back to the Mono Pass trailhead.

Route Description

From the saddle between Gibbs and Dana scramble up the talus slope to the summit. Stay west of some steep rock that is not class 2.

Essential Gear

None if the slope is clear of snow.
