Peakbagging road trip
Came here after doing East Benchmark. The transition between the mud and snow zones was pretty sketchy, but passable. My 2001 CR-V made it. The mountain had some slick mud on the lower slopes. Other than that, a straightforward hike up a mountain. Really nice views.

Via SW slope and saddle between North and South Tent.
Fairly easy route up open slopes and along summit ridge.

Parked at the turnout on the SW side of North Tent Mountain, ascended N Tent via the old 4WD road, then descended to the saddle between N Tent and S Tent. Rough use trail follows the ridge to S Tent.
Our descent took us back to the saddle, then steeply down the slope to Beck's Ditch. A very good (i.e., almost level & easily followed) trail abuts the ditch to within half a mile of the turnout, and then a sheep trail leads north of the ditch back to the cars.

From FR 054
Took a left turn to the east from Skyline Drive on to FR 054, and parked below the saddle between North Tent and South Tent Peaks. It's a bit steep but not crazy and I managed to find my way up to the top of the saddle within 30-35 mins. This is a SW approach. From the top of the saddle to the Peak took another 15 or 20 mins.

South Tent Mountain via Spring Creek Canyon
Finished my trip to the Utah county high points in the Wasatch Plateau with South Tent Mountain (my 13th Utah county high point). I really enjoyed the hike, but Skyline Drive from the top of Spring Creek Canyon to South Tent Mountain is just as awful as everyone says it is. The ruts take more out of you than the hiking does!

One of the Last Wasatch Plateau
Some thorny brush on the way up but pretty mellow hike overall. It took me a while to get around to tagging this peak so it was quite a nice feeling to finally be at the "top" of the range.

One of my first county high points
I hiked South Tent when I was first getting into hiking. Reading my trip report from back then sounds pretty pathetic. http://udink.org/2004/08/16/south-tent-mountain/
Really fun peak on a great late summer day. Loads of elk hunters everywhere. I must have been asked half a dozen times if I saw any elk. Glad I wore a brightly colored shirt!
Miko, Nala and I drove the road up Spring City Canyon. When we hit Skyline Drive the road was extremely rutted and I decided I would rather hike than take a chance. We gained the ridge and went over North Tent Mountain and then on to South Tent Mountain. On the way back we went back over North Tent. This put our journey at 6.0 miles gaining 1546 vertical. Fun day.

North and South Tent
Following Skyline Drive heading north we reached impassible snow drifts in the road at a pass at around 10,880 feet. We parked here and hiked the road about 3 miles to the base of North Tent. In the process we lost about 500' of elevation. We then hiked up the open slopes to North Tent before following the ridge to South Tent. On our descent we angled under North Tent, to avoid climbing it again, and worked our way back to Skyline Drive, and back to my truck. This was my third CoHP today and fourth in the past two days.
Snowshoed up from about 7800' on the road from Spring City, without too much postholing. Trip report.

South Tent in Sanpete
I should have worn more leg protection as this was all bushwhacking. It was a very pretty area and I enjoyed looking at the wild flowers. I'm hoping to get a book to help me identify them next year. Being from Arizona, I not familiar with Utah flora.

Heat, humidity, bushwhacking and flies made this one kind of a miserable slog. Beautiful area though.

Up the saddle...no trail.
Went up the saddle between North and South peaks and then proceeded to the top of South Tent. Nice area. In retrospect, I would have went up North Tent first and followed the ridge...likely would've been much easier than all the cross country bushwacking we had to do. Shocked that there is really no trail or marker for the Sanpete County high point!

Got stranded....
Climbed the mountain from the south side of the saddle. Reached the summit as the fog of an approaching blizzard set in. Got lost on the north side in Black Canyon, thinking I was still on the south side at the head of Canal Canyon. Had to make an emergency shelter of pine boughs to keep me and Rocky (my dog) warm for the night. Sanpete County Search and Rescue found me the next afternoon.

Mud, mud, and more mud
Took the Ephraim Canyon Road to Skyline Drive. This road is now in excellent shape and is much better than the road from Spring City. The section of Skyline Drive to the base of N Tent was only marginally rutted and for the most part was pretty good and was way better than the section from the top of the Spring City Road to the base of N Tent which looked too rutted for our lowly Subaru when we viewed it last week. However, once things unfroze, it was mud city and we now own the world's dirtiest car. Last week my husband used a snow shovel to get the mud off of our driveway. Tonight he said it was too dark so I guess I see how bad it is tomorrow.
For the hike itself, we went over N Tent to S Tent, back to the saddle, descended to the SW, and then traversed around the base of N Tent back to the car.
