Spectacular pillowed red...

Spectacular pillowed red sandstone buttes en route to The Wave. The photo is looking roughly east from the east side of the northern end of the Coyote Buttes. The Wave is off to the right about 2 miles away. Photo taken July 5, 2003.

Re: Wow!

I'll second that! I drive by here every spring from Sun Valley to Sedona. I think I'll have to stop sometime.

Re: Wow!

You'll need a permit. It's hard to get one in advance but you can get "left over ones" from the ranger station nearby (see the Main page for details) that can be used for the next day. If you visit The Wave in the late afternoon (hottest part of the day) you'll have a better chance of being alone there. This is what happened for me and I remember thinking viewing The Wave would suck if there were a bunch of people walking all over it. You can understand what I mean by looking at my photos.

Re: Wow!

I know what you mean. I've hiked and even played golf from St George to Sedona and I don't mind the heat, just hate the crowds!
