Sperry Glacier Basin

Sperry Glacier Basin

Scrambling across the varied terrain in Sperry Glacier Basin is an otherworldly experience. Melt ponds of rust, turquoise, and green; rocks worn incredibly smooth by seasonal streams draining the glacier; flat, angular rocks the size of houses. This is the first series of melt ponds we came across during our cross-country traverse from Logan Pass to Lake McDonald. Heaven's Peak is the the large, pointed summit on the left, with the North Fork's Livingston Range visible in the far distance. August 19, 2009

Re: Amazing!

thanks for the kind words. i've hiked across Sperry Glacier Basin twice, and it was just as exciting the second time around. arguably the most fantastic area i've yet to see in Glacier NP.
