Scrambling across the varied terrain in Sperry Glacier Basin is an otherworldly experience. Melt ponds of rust, turquoise, and green; rocks worn incredibly smooth by seasonal streams draining the glacier; flat, angular rocks the size of houses. This is the first series of melt ponds we came across during our cross-country traverse from Logan Pass to Lake McDonald. Heaven's Peak is the the large, pointed summit on the left, with the North Fork's Livingston Range visible in the far distance.
