Awesome.

That is one cool spire, but the location is really what makes it. Would love to see Socotra one day.

Re: Awesome.

The region is amazing. Hopefully the war in Yemen will end soon. The island is not in the conflict from what I've heard but I don't think that flights are getting there regularly. There has been talk of direct flights from Dubai so maybe you'll be able to visit at some point!

Re: Awesome.

I visited Salalah last year, very close to Socotra and they confirmed it had escaped the madness for now. Direct flights from Dubai would be outstanding... fingers crossed!

Re: Awesome.

Oman is on my list of places to go sometime... There are claims of flights on line to Socotra but they do not seem to actually be happening from what I understand. Maybe in the near future. The island and its people are wonderful!

Re: Awesome.

Rob, there is apparently a weekly flight operating now from Abu Dhabi to Socotra by Rotana Jet that was bypassing Yemeni immigration controls, as virtually no visas have been issued by the latter since 2015. However, it appears that this flight was only bringing Emiratis, and tourists have been reduced to sailing in on yachts or hitching a ride on cargo vessels from Salalah.

Re: Awesome.

Thank you for letting me know. I have heard that there is once again access to Socotra as well. I will look into it and update the page soon.

Re: Awesome.

Update: The first-ever travel guide specifically for Socotra was just announced by Bradt Guides and should ship in November. Would be very interesting to see what it has to say...
