Spires around Lavender Peak's...

Spires around Lavender Peak's summit challenge technical climbers. A rappel sling is barely visible near the top. July 20, 2005

Thanks, guys.

One look at that spire reminded me of why I am fundamentally a hiker, not a rock climber!

My slings?

Climbed it fall of 88 or 89. not that hard but it took a while, my belay man (Bill Lewis) nearly froze. Last chunk, about 10 ft is loose, thats why the sling was down low. Good memories... was I ever dumb.

Re: My slings?

Yes, I lived in durango, I would not say it was fun, I just remember cold fingers. More fun and memorable was climbing the peak with it's namesake, Dwight lavender and his friend Bob Ormes. Those guys had some great stories and did some wild stuff>

Re: Layne

Thanks, Dan. I find online Snotel data back to 1999, and 2005 had the most snow in SW CO, just edging out 2008!
