Approach from the Pacific Crest Trail / John Muir Trail just South of Mather Pass. Only about a 5-6 hour side-trip off the PCT/JMT.
Taboose Pass is the nearest pass to access the PCT/JMT. Bishop, Sawmill, Baxter, and Kearsarge are other passes nearby.
Leave the PCT/JMT and head to the unnamed lake Southeast of Mather Pass. There are some decent spots to set up camp around the lake. Walk along the south side of the lake and start heading up the green drainage saddle. Around the 12,500 foot point, start slowly turning south toward the summit. There's a few unmaintainted trails on the slope that avoid most of the rocks. If you find yourself in a bunch of rocks, look around for vegitation and smaller rocks and you should be able to pick up the trail again.
Overnight backpacking gear.
