Scott, I don't know how many ranges run from east to west in Noth America. If there's only one, I'd say "are the only mountain range;" otherwise, "are one of the few mountain ranges." Then again, I'm not a native speaker and shouldn't be overly trusted in language matters.
Nice page Scott and quite educational...I found this interesting: The Uinta Mountains are one of the only mountain ranges in North America that run east to west rather than north to south.
