Total White Out
Not a great day for the views. It was a great day when I headed for the mountain but all fog when I got there. This is #5. I did MD the same day. Total White out there also.

Eight HP
I grew up in Charleston, WV, so I'd wanted to climb this one for a long time. The road up is a lot of fun and the top is spectacular with the spruce and boulders (though that's not an unbiased opinion). The view from the tower is great.

Amazing views
Highpoint #3. Amazing views on a gorgeous, surprisingly cool, August weekend. The colors are amazing even in the summer. Creating an album of my favorite photos to link to this site as we speak, since I took over 100 while up here.

Impressive mountain
I was surprised by the sheer mass while driving from Harrisonburg and through the tiny mountain settlements. Tons of chipmunks and wild turkeys on the mountain as well. Nice views from the tower but the brush was a little thick to see a ton.

Beautiful day. After car travel sidelined highpoint adventure the day before, we rocked the lumberjack trail to the huckleberry trail, a nice leisurely 16 mile round trip adventure.

Originally planned to hike here from the Seneca Creek trail down to the falls and up Huckleberry Trail to summit. After a night camping at Judy Springs, we set out down Seneca Creek. It was then that the full scope of my girlfriend's crippling phobia of snakes was realized. Turned around and a long hike back to the car to a short drive to summit. Will have to come back again sometime to fulfill my original plan.

Spruce Knob
Quick detour to Spruce Knob during a day hiking at Seneca Rocks. There's some nice solitude here once you get a little distance between yourself and the summit tower loop trail.
I drove up this peak sometime back in the mid-90s. More recently, I have participated in trail races at the nearby Mountain Institute.

Clouds and fog
Some views on the drive up but the top was covered in fog and rain so there was no view at all. All to myself at the observation tower, but windy and cold. HP #16...on to MD same day.

When I went up there were a couple of inches of snow on the ground. I tried to find the USGS marker but I couldn't. I was the only person there and it was beautiful!

Double Play
While it was raining at campground @ Harpers Ferry decided to road trip it to Spruce Knob. This is an ideal high point to occupy time with wife who is not a hiker. The drive up to the parking area and the 900' walk to the tower was enough for her. Smoothed it over with a picnic.

Reached on our RV trip
Such a beautiful trail at this high elevation - amazing views! We stopped here one of the days on our 9-person RV trip. We picked up a couple geocaches at the top and took some amazing photos!
