I was in Fairmont, WV on a business trip, and decided it would be an easy drive-up after work let out, taking advantage of the long daylight hours this time of year.
My car's GPS took me a roundabout route with lots of dirt-gravel driving, but I got there eventually. Took the easier paved route on the way back through Briery Gap and got the extra treat of seeing Seneca Rocks as a bonus.
Awesome trip, beautiful views. The Allegheny Mountains really are pretty, even for a hardened highpointer from California!
My 4th state high point. Long ways to go! I'm sure I'll recall the easy drive up while sucking air at altitude on some of the western high points :)
got to see the sunset, beautiful. Plan on doing mt davis and backbone very soon.
After doing Hoosier Hill and Campbell Hill, I drove down to WV to do Spruce Knob. Nice views.
Did it as a 20 mile round trip backpack. Very fun and great clear summit day. On the way back my friends and I miscalculated how much water we needed and it was a race back to Seneca creek before we got dehydrated.
Forgot to sign this one. Just a no effort walk from the car to the summit. Don't remember the exact date of the trip but I do remember there being a serious drought that year.
I stayed the night at Blackwater Falls St Pk and spent some time hiking around that area. Stopped at Seneca Rocks and climbed to the top(the highlight of this 3 state trip). Fall colors are quite spectacular in the West Virginia mountains on the drive to Spruce knob. Great views from the tower, but better views can be found if you hike the trail to the southwest.
drove there, walked 25 feet, went up a flight of stairs...
Made this one on the way home for Thanksgiving. Easy drive up, and had great weather!
Made it on the first day of deer season, and didn't get shot, so that's a success, right? Also visited the tiny church.
After randomly going to WV with a friend and hanging out at seneca rocks we hit up Spruce Knob. wonderful weather.
Drove down from Pittsburgh with Sarah for a trifecta highpoint weekend. We hit Mt Davis and Backbone Mountain on Oct 23rd with fellow SPer xDoogiex. Sarah and I then hit Spruce Knob the following morning. We timed the autumn color change perfectly. Sadly, it was foggy on the 23rd and our visibility was pretty limited. Happily, we woke up the next morning to clear skies and were able to enjoy beautiful views on Spruce Knob.
You'll never forget your first!
It was foggy at the top, but it was fun to get to. Seneca Rock was very beautiful. We will return here.
The summit was crowded, but it did afford some nice views. West Virginia surprised us. It was a lot more interesting and pretty than we ever expected. Nice!
On the Allegheny trifect trip with my family, Spruce Knob was number 20 of Vanessa and my 49 state high points, number 8 for Hillary and Holly.
Easy drive-up with lots of parking...I wonder if those lots ever fill up?
Views were amazing for late June! From the tower there isn't much to see but the short trail around the summit was very enjoyable.
Justin Boyle HP #7, Luis Matallana HP #8
4 of 6 HPs for the weekend. Nice area. Worth coming back to with more time.
Third highpoint in one day along with PN and MD. About 12-18 inches of snow on the peak along with high winds and 23 degrees temps made the drive up and the sprint to the tower a little challenging but It was a beautiful winter wonderland.
