Good hike with awesome weather conditions. Make sure you stay in the rock slide area, otherwise it's a mess of scrub oak that will tear you up pretty good.

I thought I posted this already, but here it is March 2009 and I forgot.
I hiked Squaw Peak for the second time on November 1, 2008. It was a good way to relax and forget my troubles on a windy saturday. Weather was nice, but windy and cold at the top. There was not a significant amount of snow anywhere on the mountain at this time.

Left my car at 7 pm and made it back at 10 pm on the dot. Plenty of shade on a hot summer evening and a great view of the southern wasatch from the peak made this a very enjoyable hike.

Great conditioning hike that you can do in a few hours. Coming down the west face is faster, but scree covered.

From Rock Canyon
Hiked from Rock Canyon. Took me approximately two hours from the parking lot to the summit. Probably took me an hour to get down. I spent about an hour at the top taking pictures and enjoying the 2500 ft. drop down to Rock Canyon.
Fairly fun hike. There is still a lot of snow towards the top at this time of year! You can't see it from the valley floor, but when you get up towards the top, it is there in abundance on those east-facing slopes. I was wearing some Vans tennis shoes, so my feet got a little wet. Nothing to worry about, as the weather was nice - probably 55 degrees. perfect hiking weather.
My one complaint against this route is that the 'trail' (more of a road) in Rock Canyon before the fork is composed largely of loose rocks - what a pain. It gets better once you get out of the canyon.

Left Fork and Deep Snow
We were not exactly sure how much snow to expect since the west face had already melted, but we found at least four or five feet all the way up the east side. No snowshoes meant postholing every other step, which was sort of fun, but also quite tiring and the going was slow. Good hike though! Despite the snow, it was quite warm, and the views were fantastic.

Rock Canyon
Climbed up from very bottom of Rock Canyon. Trails were good the whole way.
I took a quick hike from the Rock Canyon trailhead to the summit via the First Left Fork "Squaw Peak Trail" route. The leaves were beautiful, but the weather was not. It was raining lightly when I started, and the rain turned to snow at about 7000 feet. Visibility at the summit was perhaps 100 feet, so I definitely didn't get a good view of the Utah Valley panorama.

Good exercise
Did this walk the first time in June 2006, and again in November 2006. Nice views of Utah County from the top.
December 26, 2007 (Boxing Day), I just bagged Squaw Peak for the third time. The snow was waist deep in places, and I wasn't using snowshoes. Tonnes of post-holing! I started at 2:40 pm, hit the peak at 5:30 pm, and was down, in the dark, by 7:30pm. I use the so-called "rumored" route from Rock Canyon.
September 27, 2008. Climbed Squaw Peak as a solo trail run, summiting in 70 minutes. The descent took less than an hour.
December 27, 2008. Walked the first third, snowshoed the second third on an existing trail, broke trail on snowshoes for the last third.
May 2, 2009. Ascent took 70 minutes, descent took 50 minutes.
October 18, 2009. Solo ascent took 90 minutes. Didn't time the descent cause I ended up chatting with another solo hiker.
January 2, 2010. The first half of the trail from Rock Canyon was packed solid, but by half way we found it useful to don our snowshoes. By the time we reached the last third snowshoes were essential. Yards from the top we heard a "whoop" as the snow pack settled, but luckily in only cracked and didn't slide. Three of us were on this trip.
February 28, 2010. Strolled up the normal route and on the way down the snow was so sticky that I stopped to make a snowman in the meadow where the down trail turns south to follow the drainage to rock canyon.
We got snow early this 2010 "winter" so I had to get out and enjoy it, so Nov 26 (Black Friday), 2010 I strolled up in the snow.
June 5, 2011 - While en route and still in Rock Canyon my friend actually stepped on a rattle snake. Wow! But nothing happened and we continued on to the peak.
August 28, 2011 - Car to peak and back to car 2 hours 15 minutes. It was hot out and I sweated a lot!!! :)
Feb 26, 2012 - From the green gate in Rock Canyon to the first bridge over the creek, the trail was pure solid ice, so the walking was very slow. Reached the peak in 2.5 hours, and descended in 2 hours. Didn't need the snowshoes as the trail was in all the way to peak.
Nov 10, 2012. Started walking at 8:30 am, and by the time I hit the third bridge I got fresh tracks in the new snow. Was borderline as to whether or not snowshoes would help, I opted to go without. Took me 3 hours to reach the peak, busting trail and all. Descent was less than 1.5 hours.
Feb 10, 2013. The trail was packed up rock canyon, but at the turn off to Squaw Peak it was fresh snow over the established path. I left the snowshoes off until I got out of the drainage and turned west (what I think of as the last 1/3). To socked in to get any views (I could see maybe 10 feet). Car to car in under 3 hours.
Oct 8, 2013 - 1 hour 20 minutes up, 1 hour 12 min down.
March 16, 2014 - Took the wife up, lots of ice and/or mud. Took 2 hours 40 mins up, and 2 hours down.
Dec 9, 2014 - Utah is still snowless, and with record breaking warm temperatures. I'd prefer snow and cold, but nonetheless it was a very warm day for December and made for a nice hike up Squaw Peak. It was two hours up, an hour on the peak reading, and about an hour down (forgot to time it).
April 19, 2015- It was a boring Sunday and I needed to get out of the house so I walked up Squaw Peak and it brightened my otherwise mundane day! 1 hour 45 mins up and 1.5 hours down.
July 5, 2015 - Woke up to rain today, what a relief since the last few weeks have been so hot in Utah. Decided to take advantage of the cooler temps, so I hiked up Squaw Peak. 1 hour 45 up, and 1.25 hours down.
Oct 4, 2015 - 1 hour 45 mins up and 1 hour 30 mins down
Dec 6, 2015 - 2 hours up (trail was icy in places) and 1 hour down as I didn't follow the trail down, just went east from the peak.
Jan 30, 2016 - 2 hours 10 mins up (as I made my own way up the last 1/3 breaking trail in deep snow). 1 hour 15 mins down.
Nov 19, 2016 - 1 hour 20 mins up and 1 hour down.
Dec 27, 2016 - Did this with Ken W for his 12th unique peak of the year (1 each month). We put in our own snowshoe trail up the east aspect, so it took 3 hours up. 1.5 hours down.
Nov 26, 2017 - 68 F today (sucks). Up in 1 hour 35 mins, down in 1 hour 15 mins. Solo.
July 26, 2020 - wow, I can't believe it's been almost 3 years since the last time I was on Squaw Peak I was doing this one a year or more for 12 years in a row, but I guess I messed that up. 1 hour 36 minutes up, and 14 minutes on the peak with a squirrel harassing me for some of my food, then 1 hour 27 mins to descend.
Feb 13, 2022 - sucks to see how packed in the winter trail is. I recall the good old days when I got to put the track in. Took me one hour and 50 minutes to ascend, and one hour and 17 minutes to decend.
Dec 10, 2022 - took me 1 hour and 52 minutes up, and using my shortcut down it took 1 hour 7 mins.
May 21, 2023 - 1 hours 45 minutes up and 1 hour 40 minutes to descend (cause I was removing fallen branches from the trail, and I diverted water in two places from the trail).
October 30, 2023 - Strolled up in just under two hours and walked down in about 1 hour 40 mins (or a few less mins). I did it to break in a new pair of boots!!

Loop route
Took the trail that goes up the canyon on Squaw's backside from the south, didn't really need the snowshoes. Saw a moose near the top. I liked the views of Timp. Descended down the canyon to the north. We were breaking trail at that point; thus the snowshoes were nice. The bottom run-out was on the stream ice, pretty little canyon (other than the occasional pile of junk that idiot litterbugs left behind).

Rock Canyon Left Fork
I climbed Squaw Peak from Rock Canyon. A nice scenic approach with good views. The forest blocks out views higher up. Hard packed snow in the morning led to deep post-holing in the afternoon. It was a very warm day. T-shirt and shorts weather in March.

First Left Fork Route
My brother and I started out on a gorgeous day. We were hiking to commemorate my late Grandfather's birthday (he introduced me to hiking). I huffed and puffed most of the way, having just moved from nearly sea-level Korea less than a week before. Lots of snow on the ground, we post-holed the last 3/4 mile or so. Great day.

Bushwhack
I started from the Squaw Road to the east. I reached summit of the adjacent Peak(hill) to the northeast and proceeded to lose the trail and get mixed up in some class 4 bushwhacking. The peak and canyon were veiled in clouds and the summit offered a surreal experience.

First Left Fork Route
Beautiful night and winter conditions under an almost full moon. I was trying out a pair of Koflach mountaineering boots I had purchased at Hansen's Mountaineering in Orem. Peaked out at about midnight. Awesome night-time view of Utah Valley. Snow was fairly deep in places so I was glad I had gaiters. I did strain a groin muscle from all the post-holing that was involved. I had hiked this one 6 and a half years earlier (also by myself) on April 16, 1983 from the Squaw Peak Road.
