St. Helens eruption at Paradise

1980 was my first summer working at Mt. Rainier -- I was working on the maintenance crew for the concessionaire (GSI), and volunteer fire crew at P. Morning of May 18th a co-worker and I were walking to Paradise Inn from the dorms-- he bent over to pick something up in the parking lot-- a wad of dollars-- we were staring in shock when people started screaming on Alta Vista, turned around to see the billowing. It blew in our direction--booms, friction lightening, large glowing ash falling-- this photo was just before the last two vehicles left Paradise and park closed for several days.
