Stack Rock

Stack Rock

The west face of Stack Rock from a rather unique point of view. My daughter Anne took this shot from the front seat of a twin engine Bell 430 helicopter on our Saturday flyover of Shafer Butte. The plexiglass and some glare kept us from getting a sharper image. This pristine granite tower sits just above the city of Boise and has been off limits for years but is now accessable again. This local landmark received many visits in the 70s with a few free routes up to the 5.10 range. All of the routes were put up on lead and because this activity occurred during the clean climbing era this gem is pretty much untouched. July 30, 2011 (photo by Anne Boyles)
