SW side

Day hiked the peak from the Saint Mary's Pass TH near Sonora Pass. Nice hike with little snow, but the peak was a fun hand and feet scramble. Great clear day with views for miles.

Route Climbed: from Sonora Peak/St. Mary's Pass Date Climbed: 27 August 2005  Sucess!

Easy day trip, recommend dropping to the trail when coming from Sonora if you're looking for fastest/easiest way.

Route Climbed: Saint Marys Pass Trail Date Climbed: Oct / Nov 2002  Sucess!

Last mountain hike and peak of the year in 2002. A fine scramble to the top and a nice big summit area. Chill was in the air - winter was just around the corner.

Walked across the ridge from Sonora topping every bump along the way. Scrambled up the south side and returned on the west side of the Sonora-Stanislaus ridge. There is a cool granite outcropping/cliff near the base of Stanislaus peak. I was the first one to sign the register in 2003.

Route Climbed: South slopes Date Climbed: Sep 1, 2003; Oct 8, 2004  Sucess!

Headed up the SW side, with some fun class 3 (entirely optional) near the summit, and descended the SE side--not loose enough to plunge step down, but just loose enough to be annoying. Ritter/Banner were visible in the distance.

Came back in Oct 2004 to pad my SPS stats for the year (this was something like SPS peak #107 this year, not counting repeats), and as part of the warm-up for a more ambitious outing out of the Meysan Lake TH the next day.

What a great way to spend the afternoon! My step-father & I set out from the TH, undecided on doing Sonora or Stanislaus. Once we gained St. Mary's Pass and the first views of the peak, our decision was made - Sonora's too short to bother with by itself (tho it sure looked like it'd be a nice longer hike to do both Sonora & Stanislaus)!), and Stanislaus is by far more peak-like.

We took the obvious trail, contouring along a large bowl above the Clark Fork drainage until it petered out on a ridge above the start of the main climb.

It was pretty easy going up the side of the mountain, if a bit loose. When we got near the summit, it steepened considerably, and the very loose rock gave me (a non-climbing-expert) a bit of a scare in a few places, as I really prefer to be able to trust my hand and footholds! Our summit views were marred considerably by haze/smoke in the south - is this still the Sequoia fire?

A nice half-day hike combined with Sonora Peak. Surprisingly, still a number of snow patches around, some even south facing. The trail from St. Marys Pass to the Sierra Crest just south of the summit is spectacular. It contours nicely (very gradual ups and downs) high on the east side of the drainage for the Clark Fork. The views are great and no trees to block your line of sight. Plus, there are springs that seem to run year-round crossing the trail, providing reliable water and incredible wildflower displays. Trip Report.

Route Climbed: South Side Date Climbed: June 1999, June 30, 2004  Sucess!

First person to sign summit log in 1999. The snow was very sun cupped and soft on the approach and trip back. The water from the many springs sure tasted good! The peak was clear of snow. Moved around to make the final part of the climb on the west side. A fun scramble.

2004, did it in conjuction with Sonora Peak
