Re: Another brightly colored pictureYes, it is beech. I love it so much, my favourite deciduous tree. I would plant few around house but it would be too hot for it here. I always wondered how beech is represented in North America or where you live, if at all?

Re: Another brightly colored pictureBeech is well represented in the eastern U.S. This Grove is 30 miles from me but there are such groves less than 1/4 mile from. Unfortunately most of this has been converted to corn fields(Maize). Fagus Grandifolia(U.S.) has a lighter colored bark than Fagus Sylvatica(Euro). As you can see these are elegant woods that have been often replaced with degraded stuff. Bears can live in large hollow beech trees.
