Did the Palisade traverse from Thunderbolt to Sill as a day hike from South Lake. Brought climbing shoes for the milk bottle and was happy to have them.
Done as part of a Palisade traverse.
Long and arduous climb, especially given the sorry condition of the Clyde Couloir, making the usual approach to the base of the climb tricky and dangerous. Instead, we climbed 5.7-5.8 rock on the right side, at the toe of the buttress. We went right at the top, into a 5.5 chimney leading directly to the summit platform. The descent took some downclimbing and 12 rappels. We did not tag the top of the Milk Bottle on this trip due to lack of time, but we did reach the summit register. This was my last California 14er. Full TR here.
Great weather, great day
Climbed from Thunderbolt Pass. Went on to North Pal.
Started with Starlight from the west with a traverse to Thunderbolt. Fun stuff.
Ridgeline was phenomenal! Thanks to our guide Trevor for great leading along the traverse and up the famed summit block. A little extra adrenaline kick: made it to the top of the milk bottle as thunder and lightning started flashing a few miles away.
Traversed from Thunderbolt to Starlight to North Pal. Starlight was my favorite part, but also took us the longest and gave us the most route finding trouble.
Truly a thrill to be atop the milk bottle I'd read so much about.
W/ Chris. Great route. 12hrs r/t from bivy.
Mini traverse from camp site at Tbolt pass, up to Tbolt, here then on to Npal. Good times.
Some route finding errors made this a long climb from Thunderbolt. From the summit, we descended (I think) Southwest Chute #4. We made 6 or 7 rappels along the way. There were rap stations already set up at all of the necessary spots.
Great lunch spot on our trip covering the Palisade Traverse. Some fun moves coming up from the saddle with Thunderbolt.
NW Chute. Best summit ever!
Winter ascent in February
With Oleg R. CA 14er #13.
With Dennis, Lots of low fifth and fourth up the north shoulder of Starlight. Wild moves on the east side of the Milkbottle.
Awesome ice climbing in the Clyde couloir! Snow on the upper half. Two easy <5.5 half pitches from the notch to the summit. Milk Bottle hard in boots... Felt harder than Thunderbolt in climbing shoes. Perfect weather, killer views!
Great experience and beautiful day in the Palisades.
I am pretty sure I did not find the easiest way up from the notch but I still made it. Milk bottle was a pretty cool feature.
