Easy, very enjoyable summit. The view from up there is the best in SNP, even with wind, pouring rain, and fog obscuring parts of the view.
Was cold and windy but I enjoyed the views. Was passing through on the AT during a weekend in Shenandoah.
Shortest hike I've ever seen a bear on.
An easy hike with good views.
My wife and I and our 3 year old twins walked through the crusty snow to the summit on a crisp winter day.
As if the views from the summit weren't enough, I got to look out over the Little Stony Man Cliffs as well! A fine hike.
Did it right after Hawksbill. Weather was coming in so it was a quick visit to the summit.
Climbed this many, many times as a kid growing up in Virginia.
Hiked this with my hiking partner Zoe (my dog) by using the AT from the overlook.
Nice work with your posts.
Several great hikes include a climb of Stony Man. Last summer, for a training hike, I started from the Old Rag parking lot in Nethers and went up Nicholson Hollow, the Corbin Mountain Trail, and the Old Rag Fire Road followed by a climb of Stony Man and then a return down Nicholson Hollow.
Part of a loop that included Little Stony Man and the Passamaguoddy Trail. Parked at the south entrance to Skyland (near the stables)
Backpacked up with my Scout troop in April 1994(?)...we slept on a small ledge just below the summit on the edge of a cliff. Woke up to snow the next morning...hiked down to take on White Oak Canyon and Old Rag.
Along with about 12 other people, I learned the fundamentals of climbing at Little Stony Man cliffs with Outdoors at UVA. I am looking forward to my upcoming two year anniversary. Thanks Aarash!
We lucked out with the weather for a day in March. Temps were in the high seventies and I was greatly impressed by the peaks in Shenandoah National Park including Stony Man. Gorgeous views over the valley. We saw some Peregrin Falcons as well. Great place!
One of my dates with Eastking before we married.
Great short hike after doing the Doyles River / Jones Run loop earlier in the day. Good views and clear skies.
Quick little hike up top. Kinda concerned when I got up there and it was covered with the undergrowth but then came up on the bluffs and overlook. Good look out towards Mass-of-nothing Mountain and the Shenandoah Valley. The sun also was trying to come out by this time late in the afternoon.
Great fall colors, hiked up with my 18month son and wife, clear views
I hiked all over the Shenadoah with my dad and later on with the Outing Club in college.
Stony Man is one of the summits we visited. I hiked most of the AT from Pennsylvania through Virginia.
Trees covered in ice on the summit. Saw a lot of turkeys when driving in on Skyline Dr.
