Stretch of the Ozark Trail

Stretch of the Ozark Trail

By the first week of May 2008, the vegetation was already closing in on many stretches of the Blair Creek Section #4 of the Ozark Trail. This open stretch along Bloom Creek was an exception.

I really prefer

the open stretches. Do you ever
run into Cottonmouths, like in
the 'Doobie Bros.' song? There
must be some violent weather
brewing up north. How many people
do you actually pass along this
trail? You gotta love those
deciduous forests, and they are
probably rather colourful come
Autumn. Nice photo, Arthur!!

Re: I really prefer

Thanks!

In response to your questions:

1. I saw no one in 48 hours, first weekend in May with great weather.

2. I've been in the Ozarks in winter, spring and summer but not yet in fall. I suspect you're right that the fall colors are great. Stay tuned!

3. My son had a close encounter with a copperhead--we spent a day swimming with water snakes and it took him a long time to feel comfortable with them (they're harmless). That evening he was exploring by himself and found a "new snake" -- he decided not to pick it up because it had a triangular head (smart boy). His description matched the copperhead perfectly. Yikes!
