Up early watching the sunrise
Used the green trail up to the HP. The place was empty except for 4-6 people...

Pretty but crowded
Pleasant little hike but crawling with people on a sunny Memorial Day afternoon (go figure). Nice view at the top. Want to come back soon when less people are around.

This was a nice little hike. It's very suitable for small children. I liked the rock outcroppings at the top - they were fun to play on. Lots of blazes so you cannot get lost unless you try. I'd like to try out the longer trails for running sometime.

Why not
Not much of a mountain, but I like the area for trail running.

Belated discovery
In decades of visiting Washington and even a few years of living there, I overlooked this nice peak in gorgeous country just half an hour from the Beltway.

Sweet!
I have climbed Sugarloaf Mountain over 700 times since I started counting, in all seasons and conditions, and from all directions. (I count an ascent only if I start from the base of the mountain - not from one of its upper parking lots.) I like it most in winter when it is covered in snow and the gate at the base is closed to vehicles.

Been on Top
Went to the top to do a photo shoot with a family who wanted their pictures taken there. Beautiful day nice views. Next time I'm not doing it as work so I can more enjoy it!
I grew up in suburban Maryland, so we would hike here occasionally. When I was running cross country and track I would occasionally come to Sugarloaf to run hill repeats. It's one of the shortest hikes around, but it's still fun.
Many love this local monadnock! I have clamored over it many times; know people married on it; my son completed his Eagle Scout project rebuilding a trail here. There is a wonderful restaurant right near the foot of the mountain with excellent fall and spring views.
Hi Silversummit,
Thanks for signing the summit log for Sugarloaf. Sorry I didn't see it sooner. What is the name of that restaurant? I can't remember what it was called. It was closed for some time. While it was open my wife and I had some very nice dinners there; almond crested trout to die for if I recall correctly. I feel guilty for not remebering the name.
I love Colorado, but I do miss Maryland and Sugarloaf.
Climb On!
Patrick
I've hiked Sugarloaf dozens of times. I remember going there with my father when I was a teen, taking my future wife there when we first started dating, and now all my kids have hiked to the top.

Pleasurable!
Climbed around 8 miles of trail on a cool spring day. Views from White Rocks were quite outstanding, as well as views from the top of the mountain. Trails hiked included Mountain Loop and Northern Peaks Trails. Climbed it again in September 2010. There were ridiculous numbers of stink bugs all over, which some are still inside my car. Followed a few different routes than the first time.
Set up some topropes here one day, but probably won't go back. We had keep dodging people who were rappelling all day. They took up all the good routes with their half dozen ropes and left them hanging there all day.

Grew up in Gaithersburg, MD. Have climbed Sugarloaf dozens of times. It was always such a big adventure as a child. Later on, this is where I started rock climbing/rappelling.

Annual SummitThe entire family makes this summit every year, usually in the spring or fall. Great for kids.

Re: Can see this from my house!Sorry I didn't notice your question for so long! The restaurant is called the Comus Inn. We went there to have our 40th anniversary dinner last month.
Hope you read this sometime!
