I also know about those rabbits since we always drive out after work. Must be their way to entertain themselves! Nice trip report. It's an awesome climb indeed.
I also did this mountain in March and I will always remember the sudden wind that blasted me as you get up that first ridge. I will also always remember the scent of the billions of yellow flowers that coat the desert for miles around at that time of year.

Jackrabbits
I have also run over the critters on hwy 54. I think they are cottontails more so than Jackrabbits. Either way it is quite an experience. Great report!

rabbitsI've driven late at night there and near Big Bend National Park, and I remember those suicidal rabbits. Deer too. Really keeps you awake!
