Gold Mine Trail  Sucess!

Went up to Nooksack Cabin, then followed the trail up the west side to the top, opting to go straight up rather than contour southward when I could. Nice hike with the huge exception of swimming through the regrowth on top trying to find the true summit.

Fun day with meetup group  Sucess!

This trail can be a bit of a pill to follow on the way up and down - some recent flagging goes a decent way to make it easier, but its a little bushwhacky at parts. Cool views from the top, fun distractions checking out the mining camp on the way up. Bluebird day!

Sumas Mountain  Sucess!

Not sure if it's the best way, but came in by way of Paradise Valley Road. I was able to drive up to 1400', then took the bike the rest of the way.

No Summit Views  Sucess!

Lots of rain, wind, and snow to go around. Thank goodness I had better route beta than what this SP page currently shows! With that said, I did not take the most direct route to get there... my driving took me nearly around the mountain. I headed north on Highway 9 to Highway 542 to Highway 547 to South Pass Road to Paradise Valley Road. When I left the mountain, I headed west on South Pass Road towards Everson, then on Highway 544 and Highway 539 towards Bellingham. If only the weather had been better, my driving routes might have been quite scenic!

Short hike  Sucess!

Drove up to near the summit. High area was somewhere amongst a Christmas Tree farm. Good views. Thanks Eric for the road directions.

2nd of the day  Sucess!

First Dennis and I did Mount Pilchuck and since we finished in good time, we made the drive to Bellingham and picked up this one. Nice views to the west and it appears that a new tower has been put up (south from the highest area) since Ericnoel was up there.

Look Back!  Sucess!

I've done Sumas mountain 3 time and I get at least a little turned around on the way down every time i do it. Either flag the route (and remove them on your return please) or just look back a lot!

Prominence bagging  Sucess!

A large antenna has been added to the summit. The actual highest point appears to be 400 feet north of the tower, amongst a group of young trees.

Lost in the clear cuts  Sucess!

Beautiful day hike- round trip of 4 hours or so minus a half hour spent wandering around the clearcuts trying to find where the trail picks up again.

Beautiful except for the clear cuts  Sucess!

A beautiful day for a beautiful hike. The clear cut logging confused me and I took a detour finding the trail after the cabin. My first hike of many in the area.

Summit Road Snowshoe  Sucess!

We drove in from the N until snow stopped us and then snowshoed roads basically up to the top on fairly fresh powder. I think the snow made it much more scenic (though greater effort) than it would have been in another season.

West side logging dodging  Sucess!

Despite active logging around Friendly Cabin, I made it up to the summit via the Gold Mine Trail on an unexpectedly sunny afternoon in about 1:45. Even considering the clearcuts, this is truly a hidden gem of a (small) mountain.
