Summit Block of Elk Mountain

Don't let the use of an ultra-wide-angle lens fool you: This summit block on Elk Mountain in Charon's Garden Wilderness is at least 20-25 feet higher than the photographer. It has been estimated as a 5.9 to actually reach the top. The pool illustrates an interesting feature of springtime in the Wichita Mountains: Pothole ecosystems that quickly fill with grass and even tadpoles! Imaged in April 2008.
