I'm amazed...

that there's no snow on the summit! I guess it periodically melts hence the pile of crosses and girders behind you?

I would guess melting and sublimation clear the summit of its snow. At the time I was there, there hadn't been precipitation for 5 months (although it began on our way down!). Any snow would have sublimated away in this time I believe. As for the tangled pile of steel on the summit - I can only guess that repeated freezing and thawing over the years caused this to happen!
