Summit of Ross Knob

Several named summits on the AT just look like bumps on the trail. Ross Knob is one of these. As you can see, the AT just goes along the top of a ridge here, with trees and brush on both sides. Follow the trail and you've bagged a peak, I guess. November 2007.

Different Classic Smokies

Now this is a different version of the classic Smokies scenery. It's either rhodos and streams or ridge lines with trees on both sides blocking the views (unless you're smart enough to go before or after the leaves as you did on this trip).

We still had color from about Maddron Bald on down, I was surprised. But earlier would have been better, obviously.
