Re: ??Thank you very much, SoCalHiker or whatever your name is, for the new word in my vocabulary: to garner. I looked it up in the dictionary: speichern, sammeln. I'm so grateful every time that I can learn something.
Now I wish all of you a merry Christmas and hope, you know that you celebrate the birth anniversary of Jesus.
And this has nothing do with the Vatican or the Catholic Church. Is off-topic, I'm sorry.

Re: ??Just for your information: his name is Guido. I think he would rather be called that than "whatever your name is"!

Re: ??Thanks Eric, but it's fine, I really don't care about whether he calls me by my name. It's a response I expect from somebody with obvious ignorance about certain values.

Re: ??Let's put this to rest, guys.
After all, I think he said he was sorry.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all good drink!

Was goodI don't know what all the fuss is about. This guy collects mountains, it's a summit, it's natural if you find yourself there to want to climb it. Just because he muses on the topic of religion/paganism/etc. doesn't mean he is a bad person. You can read the same thing in a Umberto Eco novel, and pay good money for it. As you see, at the end of the day, he accorded the respect to the mountain that those around him seemed to demand by not standing on it. What is the problem, really?
As for sense of humor, haven't any of you guys who are upset tried to climb something that was "forbidden?" Maybe as a child? I don't know, maybe it's just me because I grew up in a country that respects "private property" so much that vast empty landscapes are fenced off so that no one but a mysterious absent landowner can meditate on them. I certainly wanted to cross such moonscapes, and did so on occasion. Perhaps you have to do that in order to see the humor here. I think the author accurately records the sense of the ridiculous mixed with paranoia that comes from such activities.
Who says that is "not climbing?" Who is being so literal that they think climbing only occurs with plodding feet on sanctioned paths? Climbing is an activity of the mind as well as the body. The author saw a mountain, a sacred mountain indeed. Sometimes climbing is a transgression. I say accept this broader view of climbing and incorporate it into your own life. Perhaps your days in the valleys will become as rich as your days in the mountains.
Recently I got mad at the climbers who climbed Ship Rock and wrote about it here. But I see this as different. The author ultimately didn't "stand on top," but he shared his inner thoughts with us. The Catholic religion as an old and venerable faith has nothing to fear from the author's thoughts on being tagged as a nuisance by various security or tour personnel.
None of the above prevents me from wishing a Merry Christmas to all, especially those dreamers of summits real and imaginary. :D.

AdventuresWolfgang, I really enjoy reading about your adventures. As somebody pointed out before, it is almost like I'm there with you, sneaking around in the gardens! Have you considered writing a book? I would definitely buy it. You might have to tone this chapter down a bit, as it might indeed come accross as offensive to some - a small concession to make other people happy, there's nothing wrong with that!
Cheers,
Rick

Good Page! The page is clearly off-topic.
But I fully agree with what was written by wolfgang. To understand the damage and the futility of the Vatican state, I did not have to wait for the visit to the Vatican, but it was enough to be born and grow up in Italy.
Why should I have respect for a state that for 2000 years has never had respect for anyone?????
For me the page is not offensive, but clever and funny.
