Walked up from the gate for a late lunch/early dinner while the sun was setting.

Drive-Up With Great Views!
This was our final stop of a very eventful 1000+ mile road trip. My wife and I were able to drive our car to the summit area. The final 1/2-mile or so of road (beyond the final gate) was narrow and had exposed drop-offs (with few turnouts)... so we were glad to be the only car which ventured to the top. That is probably why most people stopped at the parking area below the final gate and hiked the summit trail (approximately 1/2-mile, itself) to the top. Fantastic views! The lookout volunteer was kind enough to share some of his lookout experiences and point-out nearby lookout locations (Mount Fremont, Kelly Butte).
