Re: What a beautiful...

Thanks Marcsoltan! Funny thing, when I got up that morning, I read the clock to say 5:45 when it was really only 3:45, but even at that hour there was already a lot of color in the sky. Had I gotten up at my usual hour, I would have missed the show!

Great shot. Funny how things work out to put you in the right place at the right time.

Re: surreal

Thanks BigRob,

I was surprised by how well the trees lit up in the foreground (I suspect party due to some window light shining out onto the trees from the lodge behind me). I think that is part of why it looks surreal. The other reason has to do with Photomatix, the software I use to merge the different exposures. I generally use the "Details Enhancer" when tone mapping, and this method can give a more "painterly" look. I will try some more edits with different tone maps to see what else I can come up with.

Re: a dream

Thanks ChristianRodriguez,

It is a peaceful place. I'll definitely make another visit in the future. It would be nice to have a few days to soak it all in. Instead, I had less than 24 hours this time around.
