Did a double traverse today. When up a VERY STEEP nontraditional route to Pioneer Peak and Sunset Peak. I started out following the Lake Mary/Catherine Pass Trail at Brighton Ski Resort. One I started to pass Lake Martha, the trail switch backed to the east a little. At the top of this switchback between Lake Martha and Lake Catherine, is where I left the trail and met the ridge that divides the Catherine Pass and Dog Lake area. Once off the trail, I followed a very faint game trail along the ridge. About 150 feet below the top of the ridge (with Pioneer Peak a couple hundred feet to my west), a narrow and STEEP grass and scree covered slope taunts in front. This was my favorite part of the route. Once on the Summit of Pioneer Peak, one has incredible views of the surrounding peaks. Sunset Peak is WSW about .8 to .9 miles from the summit of Pioneer. Descend to the saddle, and follow the well defined trail to the summit of Sunset. I chose to do these peaks in reverse order. Pioneer first, Sunset second. It was incredible. I highly recommend this route.
Awesome views of BCC, LCC, and AF canyons from here. We did a quick hike up and ran back down. First run/hike after breaking my ribs a couple of weeks ago.
Climbed it just for kicks from Catherine Pass while hiking to Lake Catherine with my father. Nice and easy hike, great views, would recommend if looking for a quick 10er to bag!
Easy access and easy half-day hike RT. This would be a great peak for novice peak baggers. On the weekends, there are large crowds hiking from the Brighton parking area, so not a wilderness/solitude experience. Hiked with HZ and KP.

Various Ascents
I've climbed this peak several times - one the best views for the least amount of work in the Wasatch. Took my 8 year old daughter on one adventure and my wife on another. Definitely a peak that the majority of the family can enjoy.

Sunset
I hiked on Labor Day with my wife, 2 daughters, and about half the state of Utah. My wife and daughters hiked to Lake Catherine and waited for me while I went the additional mile to the summit. It's a beautiful area.

Birthday Run
Brit and I ran up for my birthday. We saw a moose close to the trail on the way up and got some great pictures. I ran pretty hard on quite a few portions on the way up. It was hot and Brita unfortunately had a combination of dehydration and altitude sickness hit her. It was slow going on the way down. Still a great experience and a great view from the top.
