Clear and views forever  Sucess!

Hiked with my wife and it was a great day. Looking to the east and north there are wonderful views. A bit of a bushwack at times through various cactus but very worthwhile. Enjoyed!

From Carney Springs  Sucess!

Quick dayhike after doing Weaver's the day before. The Carney Springs campground is blocked off and you have to hike in from the Pertalta Road. Well worn trail.

Shade Seekers  Sucess!

Even in October this hike was a trifle warm for us.
On the way back out to the Boulder Trail we would huddle
in small patches of shade while waiting for the rear
guard to arrive.

Carney Springs TH  Sucess!

Nice desert hike with great views and mean plantlife. You are going to get pricked. The route is cairned well and it was a longer day than I expected. Whoever said they did the round trip in two hours did not do this route. Had great weather and did not see one person on the entire climb.

Route Climbed - Carney Springs  Sucess!

Just an out of place Pacific Northwesterner here. Was warned of a rough trail and route-finding issues. Turned out to be the most well-cairned trail i think i've ever been on. Everyone else i ran into up there was thru-hiking the ridgeline. Couldn't have been a nicer day.

Hieroglyphic Canyon  Sucess!

Climbed via the Hieroglyphic Canyon trail with Tana on my first trip to the Phoenix area. Overcast day made the temps just about perfect! A bit of rain on the hike out, but weather wasn't bad at all. Much better than we had expected. Took a detour on the hike out and descended one of the first gullies to intersect the canyon a bit higher up than we had on the approach...not the best plan as we ended up bushwhacking through cacti and "wait a minute" bushes for seemingly the entire descent. But could have been worse! Saw two rattlers on the hike out...one was a Western Diamond Back that began rattling after we had both walked right past it as it hid under a bush a few feet from the trail. The other was of unknown variety and alerted us with its rattle as we approached its hideout right on the trail. This one was right on the edge of the trail and we took a detour around rather than risk upsetting him anymore. We heard at least two others as we hiked out, but didn't catch a glimpse of these as it was getting darker and they weren't right on the trail. Great day in the mountains!

From Hieroglyph  Sucess!

On top by 8AM.

I suspect this route sees less use than the Carney Springs side. The ducks are a little inconsistent.

summit views are good  Sucess!

. . . that is unless the smog is killer. If I could find my pix I'd post some summit photos - the view is well worth the effort

Fiesta Bowl  Sucess!

Trail ran this before going to the Fiesta Bowl and seeing one of the greatest games ever. The weather was great (Sunny 60F)and this has to be one of the best "urban" (within 45 minutes of Phoenix) mountains in the lower 48. This is a classic desert scramble complete with Class 3+ finish, cacti everywhere, and a sweet ridgeline.

Route Siphon Draw  Sucess!

Great desert climbing that I am definitely not used to. Had a blast climbing and jumping around on the hoodoo platform things. Lots of potential rfor rock climbing now that I think of that. Too bad I wasn't into that yet when I was there.

Hiked to the summit and then out to Peak 4,869 and a little beyond. The hoodoos make this a unique summit with great views of the whole range. The Boulder Trail was almost impossible to follow but it was still relatively easy to ascend the canyon.

A easy and scenic route to the summit via West Boulder Pass. Two hours round trip. I have also ascended this peak from the west a few times.
