Swainson's Hawk

Swainson's Hawk

Light morph Swainson's Hawk flying overhead. These and other birds of prey were very common throughout the region, especially near Lamar Valley.

not an osprey

Wing shape is wrong and head is way too dark. My money's on Swainson's Hawk.

Re: not an osprey

Thanks for calling that out. I thought for sure it was an osprey, but after a little investigation, it definitely appears to be a Swainson's Hawk. I had never seen a good view of a Swainson from underneath, so didn't realize this could possibly be something other than an osprey.
