Got atop this mountain once again for some late spring training with a group of the Rocky Mountaineers. We got snowed on!

Loop with Peterson Lake
I left the trail at about 7,400' and made my way up to the ridge. The ridge was intermittently snowy, with occasional sections of comically bad post holing. Hiked about a half mile farther west on the ridge after the summit and dropped down just west of Peterson Lake from there. Nice loop, though getting down to the trail was a bit of a grind.

Overnight trip
Camped a couple miles from the lake, bushwhacked to shoulder and climbed to summit. A lot of spots required snowshoes. Gotta love the Bitterroot:)

Climbed into a snow storm with winds that nearly knocked us over. Excellent.

Fun and rewarding! The trail was easy to find on the way up, but I lost it on the way down. If that happens to you just follow the ridge until it starts to rise again then head to your right (down) and you will run into it or find the campsite at the stream.

East Ridge
Took a friend on her first summit and my first summit in Montana. Not too windy at the top and fresh huckleberries along the way. Couldn't have asked for a better day out.

First winter "climb"
This was my first ever ascent of a peak in winter, and although a white-out on top, what an enjoyable experience!

Way windy
A nice overcast day on the east ridge until we got out of the trees. Between the spindrift and the high winds it turned out to be an adventure after all.

14 July 06 - East Ridge with my husband.

27 July 08 - Worth another climb with my husband and friends, Brian & Laurie - a little hazy but views still good.

Seven and Counting
14aug10 - Passed over the summit after completing the ridge climb from Lolo Peak. It was my second time along that ridge and I liked it even better this time.
20may10 - I've been on this summit so many times, I'm beginning to lose count. But then, I love this summit and plan to climb it many more times.
10-11jul09 - A 2-day outing with my friend Jim. Pyramid Peaks the first day then followed the ridge-crest from Holloway Lake to the summit of Sweeney Peak.
12jun09 - Took a couple of friend to visit Sweeney Peak for their first time. Still plenty of snow up high - their dogs had a great time romping on the snow fields.
27jul08 - Took a couple friends up this peak on a perfect-weather day. It was their first time on this mountain.
15jun08 - Made a solo climb on snowshoes just to view the remaining snow. There were drifts up to 25' deep near the summit.
10aug07 – Did a solo climb of the connecting ridge between Lolo and Sweeney. A wonderful, though taxing, climb I recommend for anyone who likes route finding plus Class 3 and 4 climbing.
13aug06 - Climbed the East Ridge route with my brother and wife. Perfect weather and an all around good day. Also did a little recon for a later attempt at the Lolo-Sweeney connecting ridge.
14jul06 - Climbed the East Ridge with my wife, Linda. We had a great time.

Another windy effort in the Bitterroot. The wind must know when I am out there. Saint Joseph, Sweeney, Lolo, East Trapper - they all got me.
