Goat Rock is a very popular destination for classes and groups, as this picture demonstrates. Be prepared for a social experience if you climb here.

Crowded crag

This pic really gives you a sense of how crowded with topropes Goat Rock can get.

Yep!

It can get crowded; still ever so often it is fun to go there. It is can be a good place to take someone who hasn't climbed before.

Thanks for the vote!

Weekdays !

I think the best time to go to Castle Rock state park is on weekday afternoons or evenings, weather & season permitting :)

Re: Weekdays !

You're right! It is the best time to go most places. Now I need to tell my boss I need some afternoons off, to feed my habit...

Re: Weekdays !

hahaha ! I live about 30 minutes away from this place and have a flexible schedule, so I like to get up there on weekdays when it's dry. In the spring / summer when the sun doesn't go down until 7-9 pm you can still get a few hours climbing in after work :)

Last season we would meet @ 5:30pm in the pullout next to the park. I'm sure we will do the same this year.

Re: Weekdays !

Quit bragging! It takes me at least an hour and a half to get to get to Castle Rock from Santa Cruz. So I see more weeknight gym climbing in my future. :-(

Re: Weekdays !

Yikes ! Well, I've driven 17 and 9, so I guess I can see where you're coming from :( We'll have to climb at Pinnacles NM sometime then ..
