Road trip! Trip report
From Red along with peak 10,136.
Did the hike from Red Mountain in very smokey conditions, so the views weren't as good as I hoped for. Still a great mountain.
This is the hike that got me hooked on peakbagging. Hiked up on a ridge from Hells Canyon Creek and took a slightly different route down that I don't exactly remember.
After climbing Red Mountain a couple years ago, I had to come back and hike the whole ridge out to Table Mountain. Great fun and great views!
While working in the area, I decided to hike up Red Mountain and then continued over the ridge to Table Mtn, the highpoint of the range. This included an up-and-over of Monument Peak (pyramid shape) in the process. According to my calculations, this route is about 3.5 miles one-way, with 2300 feet of gain and 1100’ of loss (makes for 7 miles RT, with 3400' of gain and loss). The Idaho wildfire smoke really blew in on the 2nd half of my hike, so my respiratory system played a big part in the adventure. Overall it is a pretty impressive mountain with great access; I parked below the lookout gate and was above timberline in minutes. Started after work at 1645 and finished in 4 hours - and in total darkness.
