I’m sure the view is great from the summit.
Gorgeous hike, mostly in the trees. Quieter and the trails are more pristine than the rest of the Mt. Marcy/ Hart Lake region. Not sure why this mountain appealed to me so. :-) Easy hike. Mostly flat until the last bit. Clear cold day.
Three hours to the top from the Loj. Surprisingly good views to the south especially.
Hiked up Tabletop Mt as my last hike of the winter. Trail was icy and packed snow, temps in the 30's with blue skies. Couldn't ask for a better day! The view of Mt Marcy was spectaular and I spent about 45 minutes on the summit before heading down. The day warmed up significantly by the afternoon and on the way out, the last 2 miles from Marcy Dam to the Loj was deep, sucking mud the whole way, which made for some slow going. And my boots must've weighed about 50 lbs by the time I finished. See ya after mud season high peaks!
Cloudy and wet, but easy going.
After a soaking wet day the day before, the summit of Table Top gave excellent, if not slightly limited views.
Climbed in wet weather and I'm pretty sure the trail is (in dry conditions) a dry riverbed. Not much for a view but I ended up linking this climb with Haystack for a pretty solid day.
I greatly enjoyed climbing up through the snow covered pines, hearing the brook next to me on the way up.
Got these in Summer Sole. #2 Winter ascent Jan. 24, 2009 with Bill and Dan.
Summited Tabletop Mountain 4427' around 12:30AM during a 15 mile night hike from the overflow parking at Adk Loj at South Meadow Ln. We intended to spend our Saturday relaxing at Marcy Dam, our campsite, but after eating our freeze-dried dinner we changed our mind. A weather window opened up and we left Marcy Dam, torches on, at 7:30PM. Followed the Van Hovenberg trail to the Tabletop junction, trekking through a lot of mud, and made it to the summit around 12:30AM. The summit is extremely uneventful so we left soon after we arrived. The descent was long and muddy; very difficult on the knees. We made it back to Marcy Dam, striked our camp, and made it back to S. Meadow Lane by 2:30AM.
I remember this well! A fellow Boy Scout had to take a dump at the top, and did not lower his pants properly. We ended-up burying his pants near the top of the mountain and he borrowed an extra pair from me! He probably still has mental issues with that embarassing day! (Check my vintage "Dear Grace" letter in the Pictures section)
3" of fresh powder on ground, otherwise not much snow, Came in from South Meadows, lunch at Indian Falls, love that spot, decent views from ridge and summit area, nice sunny day in the High Peaks.
a fine summit with good views and an easy hike up.. I thought Phelps was more difficult to be honest.. Beautiful ADK evening though.
Hiked with Phelps.
Climbed this by mistake when I missed the turn to Marcy.......
Made this side trip on the way back down the van hoevenberg from Marcy. Wet and muddy, but easy enough. Weather was beautiful and I spent some time at the summit even though there wasn't much of a view.
Nice little day trip. Pretty easy peak. The trail is pretty well worn, and was nice and muddy. But beyond that, no complaints. A good peak for beginners.
This was a long day for me.I started from the Loj at 6 am,summitted Marcy,Skylight,Gray, bushwhacked back to Marcy and then climbed Table Top for an appetizer. This was the last weekend day in the ADK's for 2 months that it did'nt rain ....Jim w
