Different perspectives
The trail was dry and easy to follow. On the way up, the view of Colden was from an angle I had not seen before. It looks very pointy & steep. After you pass the treed-over summit, there is another viewpoint. Haystack looks very cool, can't wait to climb it, although I am thinking about saving it for my final 46er.

Table Top Mountain
Climbed with Phelps via the Van Heovenberg Trail from the Adirondack Loj. Had a bit of a difficult time locating the beginning of the herd path off Van Hoevenberg. Discovered it was just before the sharp turn to Indian Falls just beyond the ski trail. Decent views of Marcy and the Great Range from the blowdown field near the summit.

Mud City
By far the muddiest mountain I have ever been on. My pants were caked in mud from this. I did it along with Phelps. It is not a fun climb.

From the Loj
Headed from Phelps to Table Top. Had a few, partial views of Marcy and even Whiteface in the distance. Lots of clouds, rain, and snow. Chilly and wet--miserable. #31/46 : )

Did this one after a trip up phelps. We got to watch a storn roll in over the mountains and eventually hit us. Rained the whole way down. The trail wasn't bad at all. Pretty easy to find and hike up.

post hole digging
Lots of snow still in the woods at the higher elevations. Also lots of blow down. Eventually we found our way.

Did this after Marcy, giving the good fortune of having two groups of five hikers trigger all the spruce traps and for three of them to find the true summit.

The Usual
Hit Colden from ADK and decided to add Tabletop as well. Easy crossing from Lake Arnold to Indian Falls. There is now a sign pointing to the trail to Tabletop (don't seem to recall that when I did this in the summer). Even saw a red trail marker 100 yards up the trail. Trail was broken and made for a 1/2 hr trip to the summit. No views as was the case in my summer summit, though the day was clear. Nice day.
Route Climbed: From VanHoevenberg Date Climbed: Feb. 22, 2003
The only reason we ended up climbing this mountain was because of a near disaster. One of the members of our group punched through a snow bridge into the creek above Indian Falls. We had to stop, set up camp and get him warm/dry again. Once the excitement died down, we were bored and decided to climb Table Top. Nothing spectacular, no views, but still fun.

High Peak #4. Climbed on last day of 3 day hike just trudged up on autopilot only view was from climbing a tree near the summit canister.
From the Journal:
“ the Route up [TableTop] is a stream. there is no other way to describe it....Trail less peaks offer two options for going up: soak your feet in streams of cut your self on the sharp pine neddles that cover that slopes neither are fun.”

Hiked over to Tabletop after Phelps. Not a bad climb, even for a trailless. The summit was a bust, socked in and even if not, there is not much of a viewpoint. Wouldn't make this the centerpiece of your day, but its a good time nonetheless.

Good day hike. 46ers have made this SUPER easy for all. There is a distinguised path and even a RED trail marker to start the path. All in all, a good time!
Route Climbed: herd path from Van Hoevenburg trail Date Climbed: Oct 13, 2000
On this day, I originally set out to climb Haystack from the ADK Loj, but I turned around at my turnaround time after being slowed by 0-6 inches of snow and ice on the trail. I did not want the day to be a total loss, so I decided to climb Tabletop when I reached Indian Falls. It was a nasty, muddy climb, but at least I got that one out of the way!
