Taft Point
My kids had burned out for the day, so they waited in the car with my wife while I did a quick run out to Taft Point. It is quite the drop when you look off the edge. Great place!

Lovely and uncrowded
There is some great riparian vegetation on the trail in late spring/early summer. Views from the point are of course superb. Encountered a murder of crows (ravens?) who spoke unceasingly in their guttural tongue.

Amazing Vertical Relief
The hike to Taft was a great breather hike before doing a 19 mile day. The vertical relief from the fissures is amazing. Some slackliners up top were testing fate. At least they had a harness on.

Precipitous
The short trail passes through some shady areas that you don't see on the Sentinel Dome trail. The views of the valley (and El Cap) are unbelievable. Watch your kids around this area.

Vertical!
Taft Point was beautiful in the late afternoon when we went, and we had the place all to ourselves. Our party included Lynda (aka Zarathustraswife), daughter Alexa (18), son Nathan (16) step-daughters Haley (8) and Heather (6).

If you are not careful the fissures can sneak up on you. The view is pretty amazing from this point. I hiked this with my husband and our kids. The older kids were brave enough to climb out to the edge and look over giving us pretty good scare.

Have been here several times. Fun with little kids but keep an eye (and at The Fissures, a hand)on them!

Taft Point
Nice hike to Taft Point, the fissures, and Sentinel Dome.
I was a mere 100 yards from the point on my last attempt in May '09 but had to turn around due to exhaustion. (just kidding). Actually the trail was snowed in and finding my way was futile so turned back and went to Sentinel Dome. Again in September '10. First stop on a loop to Sentinel again.
