Tamarack Peak via New Mount Rose Trail and southeast ridge. Snowshoe trip. 1,000 ft elevation gain. Party of 3. About an hour to the top and 1.6 miles from the Mount Rose Summit parking lot.
My wife and I lost 2 pairs of Black Diamond Guide Gloves at the parking lot (left them on the roof)... on my birthday no less. Hoping someone found them - they're $160/ea! They're black with tan leather, sizes M and L. Happy to pay a reward.
Please email if you found them at email@example.com
First time up the northwest ridge.
Nice skin up and ski down in great dry snow! First time playing in this area.
Fun day of hiking, from Mt. Rose summit took the Relay Road, cross country from due south of Tamarack, up and over the peak, back down to Relay Road, up to Relay Peak where I scrambled up the last 300 feet rather than walking the road, then took the new trail to Mt. Houghton, then cross country down from Houghton to the saddle with Mt. Rose, picked up the Mt. Rose trail here, took that until it was time for the easy cross country to Church Peak, then rejoined the Mt. Rose trail to the summit of Mt. Rose. Took the Mt. Rose trail all the way back down. TR will be posted HERE.
Parked at summit parking lot. Crossed the highway and did the snow climb up Slide Mountain. Then back to the pass and hit the rim trail. Got about a half mile in before snow took over. Just followed the ridge all the way up, occasionally looking over the edge at the beautiful bowl below. Saw two pairs of backcountry skiers and turned envious.
Easy snowshoe from Rose Summit parking lot
Getting into back-country boarding and this is a great mtn to start with.
Took the short hike to the top of Tamarack on a sunny, late November morning. Views are excellent in all directions.
Should have brought the snowshoes but it wasn't too bad. Hiked with my brother-in-law.
took my wife up for her first non-resort skinning experience. windy on top, fun hill and decent first-timer spot
Quick trip up the ridge from Mount Rose Summit Pass en route to Mount Houghton and Relay Peak. Very sunny all day (hot!)
Great skiing abound!!
Avy danger was minimal. Love early season snow!!!!
Climbed this peak on snowshoes with Sierra Mountaineering Group. Beautiful view in every direction, and a fun local peak.
Drove to TH from Reno. Skied up w Louise, Jim, Andrea. First alpine tour, great weather.
Learned avy SAR here. Snowboarded the hourglass all the way to the car. It wasn't pretty.
Alpine soul searching with a full inversion of the clouds above Tahoe...incredible view!
Ascended the East ridge and descended the East Bowl with Peter
Green. Heavy powder on top of the previous day's slush. No complaints about powder turns in May!
Skied from the summit! Trip Report
Bushwhacked up here after losing the Mount Rose Trail in the snow. Kind of embarrassing to get lost here, but there was still a lot of snow!
