Eagle Creek Loop  Sucess!

My favorite Gorge peak. Worth all of the effort to stand on the edge of this one. Great views of volcanoes, into Eagle Creek and the entire length of the Gorge. Like Tomlike, summitpost pictures inspired me to climb this soon after moving to Oregon.

Route Climbed: Tanner Butte Trail  Sucess!

A beautiful day to be up there. Think snow blanketed the top of the mountain which made for slow going, but the view of Mt. Hood at the end made it absolutely worth it.

All I can remember is OUCH!....That was a long way to go for a foggy view.

5570 feet of elevation gain and something like 24 miles. Good God. Who does trails like these? None other than Don "I drink straight from springs" Nelsen, that's who.

Well, this day Don hiked with me so he couldn't do his normal mountain run so he also pretty much doubled the time it would normally take him. We did this bad boy in like 10 hours 50 minutes or something. I had soaked feet the entire time but it was actually a pretty beautiful day with temps around 60 (in January!).

I was able to keep up with Don for about 8 miles or so (or he allowed me to) then I started to fade at the pace we were keeping. Thankful rests after having to wade across a high (and cold) creek and then again at Big Cedar Springs kept me going. Was happy when we made the summit for some incredible views. The trip down is a blur of sore feet, blisters, telling stories and headlamps. Was a good day.

Route Climbed: Tanner Butte Trail #401 Date Climbed: December 21, 2004 & August, 2006  Sucess!

This one reminded me a lot of my Mt Marcy Hike - constant snow but litle accumulation, windy , cold, lots of rime ice, and no views. This is a pretty long hike, but is a pretty neat little mountain, and well worth it. I would like to see it in the spring when the summit beargrass meadow is in bloom (and perhaps a view).

August, 2006 - I did the Eagle-Tanner loop this long day. Eagle Creek is beauriful, but a little crowded for my tastes. I would still do it again though. Saw a briliant sunset due to wildfire smoke returned to the trailhead in the dark and slept really really well when I got back to Portland.

Found this one by accident and just had to see what was up there. Got caught in a surprise summer hailstorm in a cotton t-shirt - won't be doing that again!

Saw no one for over 15 miles and only a couple of other hikers on the first 7 miles.
