Beauty is where you find it  Sucess!

SHP #12

If you're above highpointing, then it's real simple: don't go, and your sense of superiority ought also to place you above trolling on SHP summit logs.

Hit this one up "on the way" back from a Radiohead show with my dad in St. Louis. I would've done the Mina Sauk trail, but for my 76-year-old father who doesn't get around as well as he once did and an additional 10 hours left to drive home.

Still, we both hit up the observation tower for the great views offered there.

HP #28  Sucess!

Very nice day. I only saw one other person hiking in the area. The trail heads were easy to find and the trails were well marked.

New Years HP  Sucess!

Highpoint #6 - did this on new years day of 2011 after spending the night in Branson, MO. Accidentally went to the Resivoir...had to back track a little on the drive to get to the real high point. it was cold; barely above freezing.

Missouri High  Sucess!

Slept the night previous at the campground at the trailhead, it was warm and muggy. The view across the nearby wooded hills was pleasant.

HP #29  Sucess!

Pretty simple stroll. I noted that gasoline was less than a dollar per gallon on this trip.

#6  Sucess!

On an eastern journey, I decided to hit all the highpoints of the states I'd be in - 16 possible states, and Taum Sauk was number 2 on the trip.

Guru Jakk Longacre

Spent the pm with Guru Jakk Longacre (founder of the 50 state highpoint club who lived there in his trailer). Took him to breakfast the next morning to the "Town & Country" diner where he signed a mug for me! He died a few months later. This was my 49th HP! Did #50 (Gannenett Peak, WY in 2002). WY was also Jakk's #50 HP! He had a great autographed climbing library!

Lucky HP#13  Sucess!

Lovely little walk with my best friend and her fiancée. Ran into another highpointer on the trail and talked for a minute...glad he proved to
my friends that I am not the only insane follower of this hobby on the planet!

Very foggy  Sucess!

I got the idea to hit a few state highpoints on my annual Xmas drive from CO to IN. Got there late in the day, near the solstice, very foggy. I wasn't able to do the 3 mile loop, but I look forward to doing it another time.

HP #21  Sucess!

Last high point on a four state trip. I was running behind on getting home, so I decided to take the paved trail in Taum Sauk St. Pk. to the high point.
