Essentially a drive up, perfect day....  Sucess!

This is Missouri. I flew into Memphis. I then proceeded on a 1,955-mile road trip through the southern states to bag the highpoints in MO, AR, LA, FL, AL, and MS. Here is MO, highpoint number 18/51 for me and ranked 41/51.

Not my first time, but at least I noted it  Sucess!

The high point is actually conveniently located close to a parking lot at the start / end of a much longer hike down to Mina Sauk falls, which unfortunately is a wet weather falls on a trail that gets really goopy when it rains. Nonetheless, I saw the high point, I saw the falls, it was a good day.

Busy  Sucess!

More people were here than I expected. We also completed the loop[ trail to the falls. The 3 hour estimate they give is quite generous! We did it in just over an hour. The waterfalls were more falls than water on this day. Quite a bit of the trail is quite rocky due to runoff eroding the trail.

Taum Sauk  Sucess!

Windy drive through state park. Parking lot 200 ft from high point. Marked with stone of MO. Road over was snow covered and slippery. Arrived just before sunset and saw the moon come up. Directions on site were spot on.

Easy hike to Mina Sauk Falls  Sucess!

Very easy accessible walk to the high-point, then nice hike out to Mina Sauk Falls and back. The falls were barely flowing this time of year, but still nice to visit.

1st High Point  Sucess!

Climbed this high point and the surrounding area the night after an incredible thunderstorm. The waterfall down the trail was amazing.

The big 4-0!  Sucess!

So not the most exciting way to grab my 40th Highpoint but the last of a 1200mile 4 state Highpoint trip. Hiked to Mina Sauk falls which was merely a trickle but enjoyed a few brews there and then hiked back, amazingly hot day.

Drive up  Sucess!

Had a full day planned with lots of driving, so took the easy way up. SHort paved walk from the parking lot to the wooded summit. No views of course. Wish I had time and planned on hiking to the waterfalls...

Summit #1  Sucess!

I had a bit of trouble getting out there and coming back, but I found my way and got to the high point. I'm thinking of going again soon to better experience the area around it.

Highpoint #4  Sucess!

Absolutely loved this trail. I was short on time so I had to run the trail with my dog. I would love to go back.

Taum Sauk  Sucess!

Short walk into the forest here for the highpoint. Kept up well but nothing to see. We had many miles to go so we were not going to hike to the falls. Didn't see the marker for this one.

Journey through Dixie  Sucess!

Just a short walk in the woods to a tiny site. Well maintained and respectable, just not too much there. Couldn't find the geological disc but no big deal. So, this was the end of a four state ramble through the south. Taum Sauk is of a pain to get to but that kind of goes without saying. I was beat after all the driving. I was never so glad to see Memphis for the flight home.

Highpoint #10  Sucess!

Hiked with my brother during our Labor Day weekend trip. Weather was gorgeous. My 10th highpoint and my brother's 7th.

Larvitour Stop #15  Sucess!

Spent the night at the campground, then hiked the high point and Mina Sauk Falls in the morning. It rained all morning, so the trail was a mess, but the waterfall was flowing hard. Lots of nice rocks there to climb/scramble over, just not while they're wet!

4th new state high point in 2015  Sucess!

We managed to get 4 new state high points this year: Hood, Kings, Boundary & Taum Sauk. The biggest challenge was the extra driving on a trip to see family in Iowa. But then that is one of the great things about getting new summits. We see a lot of country we otherwise wouldn't have.

Hot and sticky  Sucess!

Hiked the Mina Sauk Falls trail on a 95 degree Labor Day Weekend. Falls were dry, as was everything else in Mark Twain Nat.Forest.
