We were given a rare opportunity to climb this elusive Fourteener in November of 2004. We had a gorgeous day with almost no wind that made for spectacular views. The deceptive thing about Culebra is how much climbing there is ahead of you once you've reached the ridge line. When you reach the first of several false summits you get your first real view of the mountain as it snakes out before you. The climbing, even in the winter months, is fairly straight-forward and not too exposed. We were early enough in the winter that we didn't have to worry about avalanches that would certainly be a factor deeper into the winter months. The views are spectacular and the reward is well earned as you finally reach the true summit of this beautiful mountain.
Started at fourway, and it was a cold ascent with very little visibility. Hmm...the descent was sunny... :)
