Great hike
Teide National Park is absolutely fantastic! Summited in fact on the second attempt. The first hike was close to an epic. Started in the afternoon on Trail Nr. 7 to the Altavista hut. The hut was closed, and so was the winter shelter. The access from the hut to the top was officially closed too as the flanks were covered with hard ice! Scrambled further to La Rambleta. It took too much time because of the ice. By that time sun was setting and the views were incredibly beautiful. But it was too late to continue to the summit. Didn't want to go back in darkness over the ice either, so continued towards Pico Viejo (that path was closed too, and covered by ice, but not that bad as the part above the hut). The path disappeared under the ice cover after having walked about 15-20 min and by that time it was completely dark. Continued straight down along a huge and steep lava flow which finally exited on the park road TF-21. Navigated by the lights of the Parador hotel. The round trip took 12 hours. A day later did it the official way - a permit and a cable car. Quite a few fumaroles and strong sulfur smell in the crater.
Lack of the permit... Couldn't go to the very top.

Kessler, Shaylee, Kimberly and I originally planned to walk all the way up Teide and ride the cable car down, but we got a late start and there was no way we could complete the route on time. We actually rode the cable car most of the way up before heading up and back down the trail. It was a very windy and cold day (but not as windy as the day before), but it was clear and with good views. We walked down the trail after taking all the side trips to the various overlooks. The trail down through the pumice was rather slippery and the kids fell a few times.
Kessler and I also took a side trip to Monte Blanco for some more fine views. From the parking lot, Kessler and Kimberly got a ride back to the cable car station with some college girls from England.
Summit done it from El Portillo using a round trip: trails 1+6+7+summit then back from the summit + 7 + 6 +1 trail. 22 kms and 2000 mts gain in 11 hours. Using this trails permission is not necesary... But anyway permissions is not necesary if you climb the summit between 6 pm - 9 pm.

Pico del Teide, by cable car unfortunately
Reached the summit, but two days later then planned. Because of weather and other issues I was forced to take the cable car, fortunately my permit was stil valid (if the cc isn't operational, the permit is valid the next day), so I got to the top. Very windy, but is was clear, so great views.
Will have to come back one day though, to climb it all the way, 'by fair means'.
I went to Tenerife with a plan to hike up the volcano. On the first day I traveled to the park office in the capital but they ran out of permits for the entire week. I could only stroll 200-300m from the top, but the views were amazing, it was worth it. But if u go during a heavy season, make sure to get the permits early!

Slight disappointment
Had to take the cable car to go up, as the National Park rangers had closed the route from Montaña Blanca and access to the route would not be free until 11.30h
In spite of that, I enjoyed the day and bagged the summit from the cable car upper station

i.e. trail 7 (Montaña Blanca - Pico Teide) up from the small car park at km 40 on road TF-21 via Refugio Altavista (3260 m) to the upper terminus of the cable car (La Rambleta, 3550 m), and then trail 10 (Telesforo Bravo) up to the summit.
3 hours 45 minutes

Sabrina and I climbed normal route (up and down).
We also went down and up to Pico Viejo before going down.

The easy way
Having a break from work in Valencia and taking a holiday in Tenerife, my wife Rita, son Martin and daughter Claire took the cable car up from the plateau. We walked up the last few hundred metres to the summit cone that was emitting some small sulphurous fumes. The day was very clear and the views fantastic. Cloud inversion at the coast prevented us from seeing our holiday home in Puerto de la Cruz.

2 days hike
We did a two days hike from El Portillo up to Refugio Altavista. Next day we summitted Pico del Teide and went to the Pico Viejo. The way down from Teide was neverending! And than from Viejo as well. Finally we stood at Boca de Tauce and had to go back to the Parador for a bus. Really hard day for us, especially on the sunny weather :) But was worth it. I would love to come back again :) We have met lovely people here and I am wondering they are not on Summitpost :)

Route: Mirador (viewpoint) Pico Viejo - west
Florence and I reached the last platform of Teleferico (cable car) at 3550m. All paths were closed due to ice. We escaped through the barrier reaching Mirador del Pico Viejo with no real risk. Then taking advantage that guards could not view the west side we climbed in diagonal to reach west side and then the summit. It was fabulous to found ourselves alone in the highest point of Spain. Way back to the cable car was done without problem following the same path, only troubled by some little pieces of lava in our shoes.

Fuck permits!!!Summit done it from El Portillo using a round trip: trails 1+6+7+summit then back from the summit + 7 + 6 +1 trail. 22 kms and 2000 mts gain in 11 hours. Using this trails permission is not necesary... But anyway permissions is not necesary if you climb the summit between 6 pm - 9 pm.
