Teide trail #7
This turned into a very enjoyable hike after a disipointing start on Mna. Blanca. Permits were not being issued in Santa Cruz due to 'meteorlogical conditions'. But, as luck would have it, the cable-car was not running this day! Which of course, means no rangers or park staff! So I climbed the remaining 511ft. to the summit cone. The trail further down near the Rufugio was extremely icy.
We hiked up from the road in one day. The conditions were really bad, the slopes of the mountain were covered in icy snow and a storm was coming up. We continued anyway and made it to the summit. Up there, we had no view whatsoever, and our jackets were coated with a 5mm layer of ice.

great views
This was a great climb for me... I stayed positive and excited the whole way, and enjoyed the view throughout. The tourist who take the cable car are a bit annoying since they are everywhere along the path, but once past the permit station, it was good again.

normal route
Enjoyed the climb... took our time, about 4.5 hours but we didn't feel like rushing the day along. The weather was great and the views of the island and surrounding islands were fantastic. We enjoyed being on top of Spain!
Route Climbed: Normal route Date Climbed: 21st September 2005
We decided to climb El-Teide for a friends 50th birthday (and succeeded). Although the climb was straight forward (stopping at the Altavista refuge for dinner) the altitude was a real pace-slower. Well done to Geoff Roberts for claiming his first 10,000 footer.
Although the cable car was running when we climbed, we aimed to reach the summit at sunset to take photographs (thus ensuring that the guard had left, as we were to lazy to go to Santa Cruz for the permits) and I must say the sunset alone makes the whole climb worthwhile. 10 / 10.
Route Climbed: Normal Route over Refugio de Alta Vista Date Climbed: November 1997
A long dusty hike from parking place to the summit. One women in our group have AMS, so we decide do use the cable train down.
Beautyful weather, awesome colors and spectacular views to the islands around in the Atlantic Ocean.

Route Climbed: Refugio de Alta Vista Date Climbed: 6.4.2005
very scenic and very easy route. we started 1.00 AM and saw a beautiful sunrise near the summit. The National park office didn't give me a single permit because there was "too much snow" on the mountain, so I joined a guided group because it was the only way to get there.
Route Climbed: Normal - except summit directly from east Date Climbed: 06 Mar 2005
We started our climb on 5th of Mar, spent the night at Refugio de Altavista annexe (Refugio was closed) and summitted on 6th of Mar. There was lot of snow for this mountain. The whole park itself was closed so no cable cars, rangers or anything like that. However, the normal gear requirements didn't apply. Crampons and axe were must. In general good winter mountaineering gear are highly recommended if there are snow conditions like this.
Route Climbed: Montana Blanca Date Climbed: Feb 2005
The great trip under (a summer), through (rain and snow) and over (wind, temp. feeling -40) the clouds. We were on the top just before sunset. I was a little afraid of warm hydrosulphur breathes on the top as we were tired and quite alone there, but happily everything was ok.
Route Climbed: Normal-Montaña Blanca Date Climbed: 31 January 2005
Climbed Teide by the regular route in winter. Some hard snow on the Rambleta and lava flows west of the Refugio del Altavista slowed me down, crampons and ice axe might have been a good idea, but no serious difficulties. Had the summit all to myself, as I reached the summit just after the cable car shut for the day. Not a lot of room to sit down at the summit, and thick clouds of volcanic gases made it an exciting but uncomfortable place. Views well above the clouds were dramatic. I have a photo report of the route on my website at:
http://www.edwardboyle.com/photos38.html
The most amazing mountain I've climbed (and the largest!). Stayed at the Parador hotel to acclimatise, a great place to stay if you're thinking of climbing Teide, although the staff weren't very helpful when I asked about obtaining a summit permit - they claimed the summit was 'completely closed'. Good food and quiet off season.
Route Climbed: Normal-Montaña Blanca Date Climbed: 24th november 2004
Great and spectacullar "martian" landscape of volcanic stones and lava. The route was in complete silent only with 5 or 6 persons in all the route to the refuge for my sister and me (it's a strange sensation of the natural desolation of the volcano). After of the refuge of Altavista (3298m) we're sourronded with a lot of tourist in Mirador de Fortaleza (they used the cable car to 3550 m) but it's no a great problem (a little of pacience it's neccesary in this moment for the mountaineers). A big feeling in the summit, the highest of my country, specially for my sister (it's highest point for her, 3718 meters) with the smoke of the volcano in little activity (yellow alert in this moment).
Route Climbed: Refugio de Alta Vista Date Climbed: 4 October 2000
I climbed the Teide with my friend Pili. We started to climb at 7 o'clock. The sunrise was beautiful. We saw a " mar de nubes" and we heard the silence too.
Route Climbed: Montaña Blanca Date Climbed: 9 April 2004
I climbed the Teide with my daughter Diana (22) and my son Eduardo (19) following the normal route. We started the climb at about 7:20am and arrived at the summit at around 12:30pm. We only stopped at the Altavista hut (closed, although an annexe was open). The weather was excellent early in the morning but when we reached the summit there were a lot of clouds around the volcano. However, the views and the emotions were superb. We used the telecabina to come down.
Route Climbed: Montana Blanca - Rifugio Altavista - Rambleta Date Climbed: May 2003
Great hike from the Canadas del Teide up 1300m to the Rambleta. We didn't make the summit because you need a permit up there (which we didn't have). Nevertheless absolutely great views of the Canadas and the neighbouring Ilands La Gomera and Gran Canaria as well as the lower caldera of Pico Viejo. The Tourists which go up by cable car are rather annoying, though.
Route Climbed: walking path Date Climbed: September 2001
A pleasant walk. The cable car wasn't working due to the wind, which was a blessing.
Unfortunately got clowdy when we reached the limit of the restricted zone and we could not appreciate the view. But the glimpses of the snowed peak were a nice contrast with the barren flank.
We ascend in 1992, with the one that then was my girlfriend and now my wife. We ascend in bus, and then in the cable car. The views from the summit are incredible. Leave the island of Great Canaria and the Gomera besides a fantastic view of the whole tenerife island.
Route Climbed: normal (via Montana Blanca) Date Climbed: Dec. 29. 2001
Using the bus, I did not start before 11 am on a stormy but otherwise excellent day.
No rangers beyond the jeep tracks, very few people, most of them freezing bitterly. Funny (dancing more than) walking on the icy trail above the refuge. Alone with the sulphur smell on the summit. Incredible.
And then rushing back down for the bus. What a day!
