Ten Four Summit

Ten Four Summit

Trees? This 4383 foot summit took us six hours to get here. Prominence Peak bagger Ken Jones and SP member Eric Noel were as suprised about it taking this long as I was that five miles took that amount of time. The main purpose of posting this picture is to provide a look at the summit of this mountain. It is right behind them so no need to vote on this shot. Why six hours? A locked gate, slide alder obstacle courses and slopes filled with Devil's Club, steep snow that required routefinding decisions. Going down was faster, it only took us 4 hours. 10 hours for ten miles and 3000 feet of elevation? Yup - It was a full day on what we thought would be a short day. Oh well.... 5-12-07

The register

A pretty lame summit, isn't it?

I noticed you said you couldn't find the register I placed. Well, I put it in the crotch of those two tightly-spaced trees seen between you two. It was placed about 6 feet off the deck. But I suppose the trees may have swayed in the wind, thus dislodging it. It's no big deal. It was a lame-o film canister register with a scrap of paper in it.

Re: The register

We looked all over for the register you placed but couldn't find it. It was nice to get this one out of the way and it surprised us that it took so long to do it. Of course, it was fun to have Eric and Ken along. I did place a new register but no telling how long it will last up there.

No register for me, today, either.

But I think the minimum 4-5' deep snowpack at the summit probably had something to do with it. ;-)

The register

Dean, the register you left is still there as of 7/4/11, safely ensconced in that perfect spot where you left it, though few have signed it.

About a foot of snow is still on Ten-Four Mountain at this late date, though there are patches of bare ground, too. I was concerned with bypassing 4228 on snow without an ice axe, since I inadvertently left mine with my bike, but it was no problem.

Hey Fred, neat to hear from you and know that the register is still there. Thanks for your input. Hope you had a great 4th.
