Fun evening romp  Sucess!

Did this instead of sitting in I70 traffic. Uncrowded (a rarity in CO these days, on a weekend)! Obscure 11ers, who knew? Post late-afternoon showers, prime golden hour. The radar-billboard thing up there was cool (the "Umunhum" equivalent of Dillon/Silverthorne/Frisco?). The trail begins as a nice mountain bike trail, and then becomes a dirtbike track. The long meandering switchbacks can be skipped by forging uphill directly, with some deadfall negotiation, but otherwise, smooth sailing (use GPS!) If you're lucky you'll find the "direct chute" old secret trail.. Summit is a 100 feet away from the road, at the protrusion of rocks in the stand of trees.

Last day lark  Sucess!

My wife and I decided to get a morning climb in on our last day in Summit County. A nice calm ending to a great week of climbing and hiking!

Frey Gulch  Sucess!

Steve and I went up this one after an ascent of Lenawee and an ascent of the 12ers above Keystone Ski Area, hard to count this one as a hike as we drove up all but about 400' of it. The Frey Gulch Road gets really steep at 10,300, highly recommend NOT driving higher than that as turning around is not possible until 11k and backing up would be difficult given how steep it is.

Western slopes and ridge  Sucess!

This peak was a good choice given the conditions. Recent snowfall on top of an unstable snowpack resulted in plenty of "whoomping" for us even on level terrain on this gentle peak! Sadly, 5 snowriders (1 skier and 4 boarders) perished in nearby Loveland Pass while we were on Tenderfoot! Sobering indeed. (May there families and friends be finding much needed peace by now.)
